Sabrina and Idris Elba’s trip to rural Sierra Leone

In December 2019, months before the pandemic hit, Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre Elba, Global Citizen, and the United Nations’ International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) visited Sierra Leone, one of the most vulnerable countries in the world and a nation rebuilding from years of civil war, natural disasters and Ebola - as part of Idris's homecoming trip to the nation of his father.

During the trip, the Elba’s visited a remote rural community battling hunger and climate change that is using sustainable agriculture and a project supported by IFAD to feed the community, transform lives and create jobs and resilience. This year the Elba’s have joined forces with Global Citizen and IFAD to advocate for greater investment in sustainable agriculture and rural areas in developing countries to help feed a growing world, boost economic growth and reduce the need for rising humanitarian aid. Together, they are calling on world leaders to significantly increase their investments for farmers all over the world to combat the impact of climate shocks, build the capacity of communities to withstand changing weather patterns, and increase production for nutritious food.
